Made the 3 hour drive to Charlotte this year for HeroesCon.Really enjoyed it this year.Got to meet and talk to Ursula Vernon(ursulav on DA)who is a really nice and fun person to talk to and if you haven't checked out her stuff on DA yet then you need to do so immediately.Also got to meet Steve Niles(30 Days of Night),Robert Venditti(The Surrogates)and Jeff Smith(Bone,RASL).Spent way more money then I intended but I'll just eat fried baloney sandwiches for a week or three.The coolest part? When Jeff Smith not only autographed my copy of Bone Vol.1 but did a quick sketch of Fone Bone in there as well.
I tend to spend more time in Indie Island than anywhere else so I'll plug a few books and webcomics that caught my eye this year.Take the time to check them out.
Capes and Babes-A webcomic by Chris Flick at www.capesandbabes.com If you read comics you need to read this strip.If you don't read comics I'll just say it's got a werewolf and a vampire and an illegal (H.R.Giger)Alien who does minimum wage jobs.Bought hte collection of the first 200 strips and laughed out loud throughout.
Dawns Dictionary Drama-A webcomic by John Bintz at www.dawnsdictionarydrama.comIt's on a small break at the moment while John does a Moment of Clarity but the concept is highly original.He's attempting to tell a story that includes a word from a random word generator in each strip.At the convention he was getting random words from people who stopped at his table.My contribution?Conundrum.

the only new comic I picked up(well my wife picked up but I'll recommend it anyway) was Love and Capes by Thomas F. Zahler.The tag line sums it up best The Heroically Super Situation Comedy.It deals with Abby,the owner of a small bookstore and Mark, an accountant. Oh yeah Mark is also the worlds most powerful superhero The Crusader and his ex is Amazonia, another member of the Liberty League.
